Octavius rushed over to the hourglass as quickly as his legs could carry him.
"Jedediah!" he cried. "They need us!"
"'Fraid I ain't gonna make it," Jed replied, gazing upon him with piercing blue eyes. "You're gonna have to do it without me."
The Roman's heart began to race. He placed his hand on the glass that kept him from his grasp. They had never been so far apart; even when they had tried to avoid eachother. Something was different this time - it wasn't voluntary separation, he realized. He didn't want to be away from the cowboy. At that point, he wanted him to be right by his side.
Octavius wore an expression of shock and fear as Jed lost control of the car. His whole life flashed before his eyes in a matter of seconds, and he realized there wasn't much to be proud of. Before he knew it, there was a bright flash, then everything went black.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hurting all over, Jed slowly blinked open his eyes, observing the world around him. It was then he noticed the broken and blackened body of Octavius next to his own. He ignored the pain as he crawled over to his once enemy, seeing if he could uncover any signs of life. Nothing.
"Octy?" he whis
Jedediah winces as his arm swings a bit too quickly, a bit too roughly, and collides awkwardly with the tent pole as he attempts to push the flap aside, cursing under his breath at the unpleasant sensation that follows and clutching his arm to him with the other. The upper area of his left sleeve is rapidly changing colors, from a grey-blue to a red that earned him quite a few concerned looks on the way to his tent. Their stares don’t bother him as the flap falls back into place, his form immediately swallowed up by his cloth abode. Though he’s grateful he’s alone now, so he can tend to himself. It’s not as though he
I had given up all hope of you
Leaving me here was something you would do
But you came back, yes, you did
And I'm the one who ran and hid
Now I believe I'm in love with you
Was this possible? I never knew
How can this be? I'm not like this
Yet why are you the one I long to kiss?
We are worlds apart; this doesn't make sense
You can't see my feelings; you're too dense
I'm too scared to touch you though
Would you accept or just go?
The night is too beautiful; it goes too fast
For us to play some more, to let the fun last
Yet every morning I have a lingering regret
And I vow I'll take you yet
Somehow you saved me that day
But the
"A gift." Octavius handed his new friend a glass of wine. After the fall of Cecil, they had become fast friends, and Octavius hoped the road led to something more. Jedediah took the glass, swirling the wine, tasting it lightly. He was still getting used to the Roman customs, as Octavius was getting used to the Western customs.
"A gift?" Jed repeated, looking confused. "Ta who?"
"A gift to the gods, thanking them for the blessed friendship we have obtained." Octavius answered. He looked to the sky and silently added an amendment: "And a prayer to them for something more."

I saw his face turn to me, eyes wide and mouth set in a tight, worried frown. Sand filling his hat brim, his eyes were screaming the words he could not. I mimicked his face, hands gripping the window beside me.
"Jedediah..." I murmured his name, heart ripping. He was putting up a brave facade no matter how scared he was. I glared at Kahkmenrah, cursing him to Pluto and beyond. Jedediah needed my help, and that was my sole mission. If I failed I wished Oedipian hell upon myself. But I would not fail Jedediah. I am Roman.
